Hanmer Springs - Mt Isobel Half Day

We climbed Mount Isobel as a half day walk from Hanmer Springs, walking directly from the township.

The route climbs first over the small outlying hill of Conical Hill, a good local viewpoint before picking up forestry link tracks to emerge on the Clarence Valley Road. The walk can also be started from the car park there. The track then climbs directly up the south west ridge and sidles for a long way above the bush line.

The junction with the Dog Stream track is then reached before the final climb to the summit. From here a poled route leads on to Jollies Pass, but we returned via the Dog Stream Track, with a short side trip to the Dog Stream Waterfall.

Further down, a mixture of forestry tracks and local walking trails allow the return to the township to be made without any walking on roads.
