Edwards Hut

A straightforward weekend trip to the Edward's Hut, one of my favourite places in the Arthur's Pass region. Two days of good weather and hard compact snow on the last section of track before the hut made for a very comfortable trip.
About 5 hours in and a bit less on the way back, all on a decent tramping track, with just one small chain section and two rivers to cross.

Not true Kiwi tramping style!
Carol keeps the boots and Bump dry whilst fording the Bealey river at the start of the tramp.

Avalanche chute just below the Edwards's Valley waterfalls.

South East face of Mount Williams.

Nic compact snow just below the Edward's Hut.

Enjoying the last of the days sun on the final river flats,
just before the hut.

Falling Mountain in afternoon light from Edwards Hut.

A warm and cosy evening.

Sunday morning.
Dawn over the upper Edward's and Falling Mountain.

Edward's Hut and the Upper Edward's Valley.

This Kea followed us for a good 1km along the bush track.

Montage of the Kea flying through the bush.

Boulder sized chunks of snow were dropping off of this.

Looking back to the Edwards River Forks.
Main valley (L), East Branch (R) and Mount Bowers ridge (centre).
